💰 Tips Module

The Tips module allows you to offer, calculate, and record tips clearly and flexibly during the payment process. It is designed for salons, hairdressers, barbershops, spas, and beauty centers that want to enhance the customer experience and organize the team's tips.

You can define options such as percentages (e.g., 10%, 15%, 20%), fixed amounts (e.g., $50, $100), allow custom tips, set limits, and decide how it is displayed at the point of sale (POS) and on the receipt.

✅ What is it for?

  • Show tip options during payment so that the customer can easily choose.
  • Automatically calculate the tip according to configured rules.
  • Allow custom tips with minimum and maximum limits.
  • Define whether the tip is calculated on the subtotal or the total.
  • Control whether the tip is displayed on the POS and/or on the receipt.
  • Prepare for tip reports by staff (according to your configuration).

⚙️ Access and status of the module

From the sales configuration, you will find the Tips section. There you can see the current status of the module and activate or deactivate it quickly.

  • Activated: tip options are available for use during payment (according to configuration).
  • Deactivated: tips will not be offered in the sales/POS flow, even if saved options exist.

Recommendation: activate the module when you have defined valid options (percentages or amounts) or when you allow custom tips.

🧩 Basic Tips Configuration

The basic configuration defines what type of tips you will offer and how they are calculated. This allows the system to display consistent options and avoid errors during payment.

1) Type of tip

  • Percentage: options such as 10%, 15%, 20% are displayed, and the system calculates the amount based on the total/subtotal.
  • Fixed amount: values such as $50, $100, $200 (or the currency configured in your business) are displayed.
  • Custom (if enabled): the user can manually enter an amount.

2) Predefined values

Define the options you want to display as buttons or quick selections. For example:

  • Percentage: 5%, 10%, 15%
  • Fixed amount: $50, $100, $200

For the module to function correctly, there must be at least one valid option (predefined values or enabled custom tip).

3) Calculation method

  • Before taxes (on the subtotal): recommended if you want tips based on the service, without extra charges.
  • After taxes (on the total): recommended if you want tips calculated on the final total charged.

4) Show on the POS

You can decide whether the tip options should be displayed during payment. If you disable it, the module can still function as internal record-keeping, but it will not be offered on screen.

🛠️ Advanced Configuration

Advanced options allow you to tailor the tipping experience to your way of working, maintaining consistency in charging and avoiding out-of-range amounts.

✅ Allow custom tips

  • Activate this option if you want the user to be able to enter a manual amount.
  • Useful when the customer wants to leave a tip different from the suggested options.

🔒 Minimum and maximum limits

You can set a minimum and a maximum for the custom tip. This helps avoid loading errors (for example, adding an extra zero).

  • Minimum: prevents tips that are too low if your business requires it.
  • Maximum: prevents excessive amounts due to typing errors.

⭐ Default option

If your operation requires it, you can define a suggested default option to expedite the payment (for example, 10%).

🧾 Show on the receipt

You can control whether the tip is visibly included on the receipt. This improves transparency towards the customer and organizes the payment details.

👥 Tip distribution

Depending on your business configuration, you can organize how tips are managed:

  • Manual: the business defines the distribution outside the system or through internal rules.
  • Automatic (if applicable in your flow): prepares the system for assignments by team/shift/employee.

Important: the chosen distribution method must align with how your team works (central cash, individual commission, pool, etc.).

🧾 How it is used during a sale (POS)

Once activated, the module applies in the sales payment flow. The user will see tip options (percentage or fixed amount) and, if enabled, the option for custom tip.

Typical flow

  1. The user prepares the sale with products and/or services.
  2. At the time of payment, the system offers the configured tip options.
  3. The user selects an option or enters a manual amount (if enabled).
  4. The system calculates the tip according to the chosen method (on subtotal or total).
  5. The sale is recorded with its associated tip and the updated final total.

Quick examples

  • Percentage: Sale $1,000 + tip 10% ⇒ tip $100.
  • Fixed amount: Sale $1,000 + tip $150 ⇒ final total $1,150.
  • Custom with limit: if the maximum is $500, the system avoids charging $800 by mistake.

📊 Reports and internal control

The system is prepared to help you control tips for the business and the team. Depending on your configuration, you will be able to access summary views by staff for:

  • Total tips by team member.
  • Average tip.
  • Comparisons by period (day/week/month, according to available filters).
  • Breakdown by payment method (if your flow includes it).

✅ Best practices

  • Define 3 clear options (for example: 5%, 10%, 15%) to avoid overwhelming the customer.
  • Activate custom tips only if your operation needs it and add limits to avoid errors.
  • Choose the calculation method (subtotal or total) according to your internal policy.
  • If you provide receipts, activate show on receipt for greater transparency.
  • Periodically review reports to detect patterns and improve the experience.
